During the 26th-28th October, we ran our Half Term Goalkeeping Sessions! ⚽️🎃 Overall, we held 18 small group and 1:1 sessions! 25 keepers from U5 to U15s took part, including 11 first-time attendees to the holiday goalkeeping sessions! Here pictured, is Moses (4 years old) and his older brother Odin who came along to the sessions. It was Moses' first time trying goalkeeping and he did really well! ✨ Thank you to all the young keepers who took part and made the most out of the sessions by putting in the hard work! And a big thank you to our goalkeeper coach, Lee! 🙌 We had some great feedback following the sessions: ⭐️ "Thanks so much again for this morning Lee, Theo loved it and hasn't stopped talking about it! 👍" - From Theo's mum who came along to his first holiday charity session ⭐️ "Thank you Lee for the training, Dhairya really loved it." ⭐️ "Hi Lee, just wanted to thank you for your time spent with Jack yesterday. He said on the way back home how much he enjoyed it and what he had learnt, also good to see that he had the confidence to come out on a 1-2-1 and tackle to the floor. This is an area he needs improvement on the most. As the weather starts to get colder, it's even more tempting to stay in... 🏠 However, remaining active during the colder months is crucial for your mental health and will help with Seasonal Affective Disorder. Here are our tips: 1. Stay insulated: wrap up in breathable thermal activewear if you're going for a run or walk outside. That way you won't dread the cold when you go out! 🧤 2. Try to exercise when it's still light: it's easier to adhere to a routine during the day. However since the days are getting shorter, make sure if you are exercising at night, to wear reflective clothing so you are seen. 🌞🌚 3. Seek out an exercise partner or group: it helps motivate yourself when you have someone holding you accountable. 👯‍♀️ 4. Plan ahead: with any thing, don't leave it till last minute. Structuring and planning out your time to exercise will help you stick to a routine. 📝 5. He took a ball to his face and had a nosebleed, but he got cleaned up and then carried on. He also was taken out after receiving the ball and was in a lot of pain, but he managed to get back up and carry on! This Thursday saw our best turn out to date to our Charity Goalkeeper Session. All the kids put in a superb shift even with all the distractions of a number of matches going on around them!! 🌟 The Goalkeeper of the Week was awarded to our youngest attendee Kian, who we first met over the Easter period. 🌟 Here is our #GoodNews of the Week! 🌟 A number of the young keepers who attend the Monday Night session were in action in the Southam tournament a few weeks back!! 🧤⚡ All the boys did well and put in some great performances by all accounts for their respective teams, particularly a number of our U8 keepers! 🙌 Fresh from a tournament win last week, TomTom and his Sphinx Blues side made it to the semi-finals where he came up against Harvey and the Wolston Jr boys! In a closely fought semi-final, it went to penalties where both TomTom and Harvey excelled, pulling off some "worldie" penalties! However, there can only ever be one winner which saw Harvey and Wolston progress to the final to meet Dilan and his Sphinx side! ✨ Up to the final, Dilan and his team had done really well progressing without conceding a goal! Again, in a very keenly fought final between two very good sides, Dilan came out on top over Harvey to help his Sphinx side win the tournament!! 🏆 Congratulations to Dilan and his Sphinx side on a well deserved victory, and great work by TomTom and Harvey throughout the day playing their part in helping their teams progress deep into the tournament!! This week we had the U11 to U14 goalkeepers along to our goalkeeper camp. This group of crazy cats certainly had some strong personalities in it!! 😝 One of those personalities was young Zeb who was the youngest in attendance, but certainly did not let that worry him as he was more than happy to work with and go up against the older keepers! 💪 Zeb showed what a natural he is as a goalkeeper pulling off save after save, showing great technical ability within his handling and reactions and all this despite not being a full time goalkeeper!! 🙌⚽ The coaches loved Zeb’s determination and even though at times he could go a little over the top, the fact he would never back down from a challenge really impressed!! Even before the trophy was given out a number of Zeb’s fellow attendees were already saying the Goalkeeper of the Camp should be him and it was difficult to argue!! Our #GoodNews this week features two amazing keepers that we help coach! 🌟💪 First up is 'Big Dylan' from the Monday Night @soccerrockz.uk group, who was awarded Clubman Trophy for his Chapelfields U9 Team! 🏆 Dylan's manager comments, "Dylan received the Clubman award for always listening, doing what he is told, and trying hard for the team. Never misbehaving and is a good representation for the team." Our goalkeeper coach Lee McClay says, "We see the same at our sessions as his manager has said. Dylan is one of the quieter members of the group so we are trying to get him out his shell more but he always gives 100% and is a very consistent performer at training!" 🙌 .. Our next keeper featured is Viet, who won Most Improved Player with his Whitley Juniors U9 side! 🏅Unfortunately he is currently out injured. "Viet has been a regular attendee to sessions the Charity have provided to his local team Whitley Juniors, as well as holiday sessions and camps! It is fair to say Viet was very raw when he started training to be a goalkeeper this season, but has shown such a positive attitude to learning and developing his skills. Viet is a real character amongst the group, always smiling and having fun but also takes his game serious, listening to advice, putting new skills into practice within training and matches! It was so pleasing to hear that Viet was given the Most Improved Player award for all his hard work this season! Unfortunately, Viet recently injured his ankle but despite this he still found a unique way to train with the help of his brother which just sums up Viet's enthusiasm for football and goalkeeping! This week's GK Camp was attended by some of our more larger than life characters as some more U6 to U10 goalkeepers came along to work on their goalkeeping skills with The Eamonn Fallon Goalkeeper Charity, as well as have lots of fun and make new friends! 🥳 The coaches found it very difficult to pick a Goalkeeper of the Camp and said it was probably their toughest decision yet as a number of the boys did well for a number of reasons such as: showing great attitudes, trying to help the younger attendees, supporting the coaches, and showing big improvements over the two days! 🙌 In the end, the coaches decided to award the Goalkeeper of the Camp to Genson (with a G, as we had a Jenson with a J attend!! haha). Genson was very consistent throughout the two days, never letting his levels drop, trying to improve and listening to the coaches' advice, remaining very calm and focussed in amongst the madness and lively characters in attendance! 🌟 The coaches said consistency in a goalkeeper is a really important quality to have, as it is great to be amazing for a short period but to produce consistent form over a longer period of time is always a challenge for any goalkeeper! Goalkeeper of the Camp was so tough this time around that the coaches decided to award two! 🏆 Liam has been a regular attendee to 1-to-1's, small group sessions and holiday camp days over the last 18 months or so! The improvements have been very noticeable, looking more composed and technically sound in his handling and diving, as well as showing a massive improvement in his kicking off the floor! Liam’s attitude is always first class, taking on board the coaches advice and putting it into practice quickly! Great work Liam!! 🙌🏻⚽️🥅 The second Goalkeeper of the Camp was awarded to Kireece who performed very well over the two days! What impressed and pleased the coaches most, was how well he interacted with the other attendees as Kireece is a quiet lad and had only ever attended small group sessions, but he mixed in really well and showed a great deal of confidence and was a lot more vocal in his general communication! Our #GoodNews of the Week features a great weekend of tournament action at Rugby Borough, which saw two of our U8 keepers come head to head in the final of U8’s competition! 🙌 TomTom and his Coventry Sphinx Blues Team progressed to meet Ben and his teammates in the final resulting in a very competitive and close game! ⭐️⚽️ CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR ⚽️⭐️ The Eamonn Fallon Goalkeeper Charity has provided funding to many youngsters to enable them to receive specific goalkeeping training to help improve their skills! 💪 One youngster the Charity has provided training for is Clayton, who at end of last season went in goal to help out his Binley Woods Team when they lost their regular keeper! To celebrate the first time The Eamonn Fallon Goalkeeper Charity ran a two-day goalkeeping camp, the Charity awarded a Goalkeeper Of The Camp trophy for the U6-U10 keepers in attendance this week! 🏆🥅 The trophy was awarded not just based on the young goalkeeper's ability but also other important aspects of goalkeeping, such as: attitude, bouncing back from set backs positively, encouraging, supporting other goalkeepers as well as showing good listening and concentration skills over the two days!! 💪✨ All the goalkeepers in attendance did so well putting in a tremendous effort over the two days which made the coaches' decision very difficult! In the end, the winner of the trophy was awarded to young Dexter, who was a first time attendee and just starting out on his goalkeeping journey having watched his older brother Dylan play in goal and decided he wanted to give it a go. Initially Dexter was very nervous, but with the support of his brother was able to get over his nerves and show the coaches what natural ability he has (clearly been watching Dylan and picking up some tips!). 👌 Dexter showed an attitude and temperament well beyond his years, listening well, putting the coaches' feedback into practice quickly and was very impressive throughout the two days! Collecting loose change around your house is such a simple way to raise money for our cause! 🙌 We've got until midnight on Sunday 1st August to raise as much money as we can to help more local disadvantaged kids gain access to sport.
